Challenging Three-day Fundraising Hike for Jamie

We’re delighted to say that our Patient Trustee, Jamie Wyatt is planning to complete his three-day fundraising hike for Rebuild from 10th-12th October. He has spent many months building up his strength and training in different terrains to be ready for the challenge of the Lake District.

Jamie plans to walk 20km a day hiking through the Lake District, starting and returning from Ambleside. By his side will be a very close friend, who has been there for him through his most recent surgeries. Together, they’ll take on the challenge and document the journey as it unfolds.

Jamie has a rare and lifelong bone condition called Multiple Osteochondromas, which affects bone growth and development by causing bony growths known as exostoses. Managing this condition has been extremely difficult over the years. He has been a patient at King’s since the age of three, facing ongoing pain, numerous surgeries, and long recoveries. In the last five years, he has had several major surgeries due to valgus deformity in both legs and limb-length discrepancy.

He understands only too well the mental challenges which come with limb reconstruction treatment. This is what is driving Jamie’s fundraising and he is keen to help raise funds for a CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapist) so Rebuild can support the mental health of patients.
