Jamie Wyatt, Fundraising Hike in Lake District for Rebuild

From Surgery to Summits: Jamie Conquers 60km Lake District Challenge!

November 3, 2025/in Fundraising, News

Huge congratulations to Jamie Wyatt who has completed a difficult three-day hike in the Lake District to fundraise for Rebuild. We’re delighted that he was able to raise over £2500 towards our campaign for better mental health support!

Living with a rare lifelong bone condition, Jamie has been a patient at King’s since the age of three and now serves as a Patient Trustee for Rebuild. Despite facing ongoing pain and a long history of surgeries, Jamie was determined to take on the hike—a remarkable personal milestone and a testament to his strength and determination.

Reflecting on his journey, Jamie said, “Achieving this hike, 60km over three days in the Lake District was always a dream, a distant one. Something I never truly believed would happen after a lifetime of surgeries. Of course it was a dream. But that dream became a reality, a real pinch-me moment. When the next surgery comes around, I’ll think back to that feeling on top of the mountains… feeling on top of the world.

That feeling exists because of the incredible Orthopaedic Department at King’s College Hospital and the Rebuild charity, who’ve looked after me my whole life. This one’s for you, you’re absolute superstars. And to my friends, family, and all the brilliant colleagues and teammates I’ve had over the years, THANK YOU.”

Jamie also shared heartfelt advice for others living with long-term conditions:

• Be kind to yourself, you’re amazing.
• Mental strength is everything. It will shape how you face adversity; stay resilient, because no matter how long it takes, the light is always waiting.
• Surround yourself with people who lift you up and make you smile.
• Focus on the rebuild, start small, and celebrate every little win, step by step.
• Accept help. Don’t feel guilty, you deserve it. We all do.

He added, “I know how lucky I am. One team, one dream. We’re stronger together, and the difference that can be made when we lift each other up is extraordinary. Let’s keep raising awareness about disability and changing attitudes toward it.”
